We're Buckled in and on for the Ride...

I will need to get my medical statement redone to reflect the ulcer that I think I'm getting as a result of this ride we're on with the adoption process. Ukraine, last week, passed a new law that prohibits singles from adopting and they have also added a provision that states there can be no more than 45 years between the child and parents. Best yet, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. Works for me, but not for Jim. Therefore, after my heart went back to beating at a manageable level, I composed myself and proceeded to call our facilitator to ask "NOW WHAT!!!???" He said Jim looks so young he had no idea that this would be an issue as a result of him not completing the translation of our dossier. After several calls, he feels confident that we will be fine. Recall, that even though we are married, I will be adopting the child by myself as a result of his disability that prohibits him from flying. Therefore, because of my age, and the fact that I'm married, but adopting the child as a single, married person, that it should not be an issue. Because, Jim wont' be adopting until we return stateside. Of course, it still sounds shaky. Our facilitator is going to ask for an interpretation of our case from the Minister of Justice. We were told not to give up and keep proceeding. I asked our facilitator if he were a betting man, what he thought our chances would be. Of course, he didn't understand my question and once re-phrased several times, he felt as if nothing had changed. So, moving forward we need to get our medical statements updated and over there in preparation for our submission date to come up. We're keeping our fingers crossed and praying that things continue to work out and we are most thankful for all of our friends and family and their positive thoughts and prayers. Best wishes, Heather and Jim
